False labor?

I fell soundly asleep last night during Jimmy Fallon's monologue and was oblivious to the fact that Heidi started having contractions right about the same time. It wasn't until 3:30am that they became intense enough for me to wake up and notice. At that point we used an Android app to track the duration and frequency of the contractions and convinced ourselves it was false labor. They got a little better, then a little worse, a little better, then a little worse....

By 7am, the pain and nausea was almost unbearable so we decided to call the clinic and see if we could get checked out. They didn't have an opening until 10am but her pain was so bad by the time we got that answer we probably would've just headed to the hospital anyway.

The Audi's speed warning alarm only went off once on 694 and Heidi, between contractions, still managed to scold me–so I knew we'd make it ok. Heidi puked for the 2nd time in the triage wastebasket–this helped the triage nurse speed up the check-in process a little bit :-)

I think everyone including us still assumed false labor until nurse April discovered Heidi was already dilated 6cm!

The next hour was intensely painful. Then there was an epidural. Then there was peace in the world.

Now we wait...
